JEE Eligibility Criteria 2013-14

JEE Main 2013-14 Eligibility

To be eligible for JEE Mains, one needs to fulfill the criteria mentioned below:
* A candidate must have passed in final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent qualifying examination. Those appearing in 10+2 (Class XII) final or equivalent examination in 2013 may also appear in JEE MAIN 2013 provisionally.
* Candidates who are aspirants for NITs, IIITs, CFTIs , IITs and ISM Dhanbad - for one or more than one of them - must confirm to the eligibility criteria of the relevant institutions.
* Candidates are allowed a maximum of 3 consecutive attempts.
* Candidates who passed +2 exam in 2011 or 2012 or appearing in +2 in 2013 are only eligible to appear.


The relevant qualifying examinations are :
The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi
Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/University.
Final Examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy.
Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system.
H.S.C. Vocational Examination.
A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.
3 or 4-year diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.

JEE Advanced 2013-14 Eligibility

JEE Advanced 2013 Eligibility Criteria spells out the criteria needed for a candidate to be allowed to appear for the JEE Advanced exam. Students who figure in the top 150000 will have to fulfil additional criteria of figuring in the top 20% of their respective boards to be eligible for admissions to the IITs, IT-BHU and ISM Dhanbad. The students who satisfy JEE Advanced 2013 Eligibility Criteria will be allow to appear for the JEE Advanced 2013.
Note that ONLY the scores in the JEE Main examination will be considered for the listing of the candidates and NO tie-break mechanism will be implemented. This immediately implies that the number of candidates qualifying to appear for the JEE Advanced might be slightly higher than the intended 1,50,000 as there could be more than one candidate at the same score.

The various categories from which the candidates are selected are as given below:

  • 50.5% from the Common Merit List (CML). This is approximately accounts for 75,750 candidates of General Merit. Note that some of the reserved category candidates may also be included in this list.
  • 27% from the OBC-NCL Merit List. About 40,500 candidates of the OBC-NCL fall into this.
  • 15% and 7.5% from the SC and ST Merit Lists respectively will call for 22,500 candidates from the SC category and 11,250 candidates from the ST category.
  • Persons with Disability (PwD) will form 3% of each of the above given Merit lists.
  • The candidates belonging to reserved categories but appear in the Common Merit List will NOT be included in their respective category lists.

  • JEE Advanced 2013 Eligibility Criteria :

  • Candidate must have appeared for the JEE Main 2013 Paper 1 exam and scored a rank below 1, 50,000 (including all categories) to be eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced) - 2013.

  • Admission Criteria for IITs and ISM Dhanbad :
  • The category wise All India Rank (AIR) in JEE (Advanced) 2013 will be the basis for admissions provided the following criterion are met.
  • Candidates must figure in the top 20% of successful students of their respective Boards
  • To qualify, they must have scored a minimum score of 60% in the qualifying exam (Class XII or equivalent) (for students who have passed their Class XII in the first attempt in 2012.
  • Note:
    In case the respective board does not provide the cutoff information regarding the top twenty percentile of successful candidate Candidates will have to produce a certificate from the board stating the same.
    In case a student is unable to rpoduce a certificate as above, the CBSE percentile will be used as the criteria for deciding minimum percentage of marks in the qualifying examination. JEE Advanced 2013 No. Of Attempts: A maximum of two times in consecutive years.

    Non eligibility Criteria: students who belong to the following criteria cannot apply for the JEE Advanced:
  • Candidates who have attempted IIT-JEE in 2011 or earlier are NOT ELIGIBLE to appear in JEE (Advanced) - 2013
  • Candidates who have taken /accepted admission at any of the IITs, IT-BHU Varanasi or ISM Dhanbad, are  NOT ELIGIBLE to appear in JEE (Advanced) - 2013.

  • JEE Advance 2013 Rank wise Distribution of top 1, 50,000 candidates as per Category:
    Common Merit List: Top 75750 (50.5 %)
    Other Backward Classes Non creamy layer OBC (NCL): Top 40500 (27%)
    Scheduled Caste (SC): Top 22500 (15 %)
    Scheduled Tribe (ST): Top 11250 (7.5 %)
